Due to a very generous donation from world famous Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind, this playground stands on the site of the second Jenny Lind Infirmary for Sick Children,(the first opened in 1854 in pottergate area of norwich) which opened in 1900 and was closed in 1975 and demolished shortly after to make way for a playground in her name. the current 'Jenny Lind Children's Department' still form part of the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, on the outskirts of norwich.

Norwich was the site of the second children's hospital in the uk the first being the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital which is still regarded as the best in the country, although the Jenny Lind Children's Hospital wasn't the first it is still held in high esteem by many.
Currently the gate to the playground is all that stands however this whole area is under redevelopment with a new play area to be build
